So since the 9th anniversary of her passing, I’ve been sort of thinking about this day – the day where we would approach the 10th anniversary of her passing, and as much as I’d like to think I’ve sort of moved on – it’s still surreal to think that she’s gone. She was 22 years old at the time of her passing, and more than any time in her life previously – she was on the road to becoming one of the biggest artists of the turn of the millennium. Platinum albums, #1 singles, awards, and movies – it was all on the rise for her, until tragedy struck on August 25th 2001 when the world found out the news that Aaliyah Dana Haughton was dead. Personally myself, I can still remember watching the news and continue to hear reports of it – and I was completely shook. It was probably the first time in my young life I learned that nothing is guaranteed, and it for sure can be taken away at any instant. However, since then – we’ve celebrated the impact she made on the R&B/Hip Hop genre as a whole with fellow collaborative artists Timbaland, Missy Elliot, and Ginuwine. They were responsible in crafting an urban pop sound, something which has resonated in artists throughout the years and something you can see in artists like Ciara, Keri Hilson, Kelly Rowland, and more. Aaliyah was “More Than A Woman”, “One In A Million” and still to today, we “Miss You”.
I personally would like to thank DJ Killzz for going out of his way to create this mix.
